COVID-19 Update

Travel program update from April 11th

Good Afternoon Travel Soccer Players and Family,

We hope you and your families are well and staying healthy. The health and safety of our members and families remain our priority and we continue to keep the best interests of our entire soccer community in mind as we explore options to return to the field.

In light of the recent guidelines announced by the federal government, SCCSA has expanded our current suspension of club and league activities through April 30, 2020.

Please know that we continue to be in constant contact with our local, state, and national stakeholders, including U.S Youth Soccer, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association, as well as local school officials/other community groups.  While all these groups agree that this pause in action is in the best interest of public help, we. along with the state organization, leagues, and tournaments, continue to hold out hope and have a passion that we will be able to reboot our season sometime this spring and into early summer.  In fact, we are reminded of the important role our local community groups can and will play when US Youth Soccer expressed to its clubs that “Our focus should be on those local leagues to bring our communities back together through sport… 2020 must be about coming back together”.   In support of this idea and in an effort to help bring some normalcy back to our players routines, SCCSA is committed to doing everything we can to restart the 2020 Spring Season.

While the final decisions on how and when travel soccer can resume activity will be determined by EPYSA and U.S Youth Soccer, please know SCCSA continues to work behind the scenes to be ready for a prompt return to action.  We are in constant contact with the state office, leagues, and tournaments about what a reboot will look like and how the calendar may be adjusted.  As we get a better understanding of what the weeks ahead will look like, we will share that information with our membership as promptly as permitted.  Information is changing almost daily, we want to make sure we are sharing accurate updates and plans.

If, as we move through May and into June, it becomes clear that we will not resume the 2020 Spring season, we will communicate this and articulate what actions and happenings would result from this disappointing determination.  Again, U.S Soccer and EPYSA, have directed us to prepare and operate in a manner that assumes a spring return will happen.  I thank all our members who continue to play crucial roles of working with our players and tackling behind the scene tasks during this difficult time.

As we move forward through this, please continue to read all communications from your trainers, coaches, team managers, and club officials.  Also be sure to follow our Social Media pages and club website for the most accurate updates and information.  Your trainers will be reaching out shortly with additional information on our current season.  They will also share information on the 2020/2021 Tryouts.  We know there will be some changes to the tryout schedule.  We will post those changes on our website and other media platforms as they happen.  Please consider registering for tryouts- so we can continue to prepare for the 20/21 season.  Also, feel free to share information with other players who may be interested in joining our Travel Family.   Information and registration can be found at www.sccsasoccer.com.

As always, we thank you for your continued understanding and support as we work through these uncharted territories.  We miss you all greatly and look forward to when we can return to the program and sport we all truly love.

Our next status update/communication will be sent out on or before May 1, 2020.

Until that communication, all of us at SCCSA wish you and your loved ones good health and safety.

Recreation program update from April 6th

Good Afternoon SCCSA Recreation Soccer/Little Dragons Players and Family,

We hope you and your families are well and staying healthy. The health and safety of our members and families remain our priority and we continue to keep the best interests of our entire soccer community in mind as we explore options to return to the field.

In light of the recent guidelines announced by the federal government, SCCSA will expand our current suspension of club and league activities through April 30, 2020.

Please know that we continue to be in constant contact with our local, state, and national stakeholders, including U.S Youth Soccer, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association, as well as local school officials/other community groups.  While all these groups agree that this pause in action is in the best interest of public help, we continue to hold out hope and a passion that we will be able to reboot our season sometime this spring.  In fact, we are reminded of the important role our local community groups can and will play when US Youth Soccer expressed to its clubs that “Our focus should be on those local leagues to bring our communities back together through sport… 2020 must be about coming back together”.

In support of this idea and in an effort to help bring some normalcy back to our players routines, SCCSA is committed to doing everything we can to hold the 2020 Spring Recreation Soccer/Little Dragons Season.  With this goal in mind, we have created three possible schedule moving forward this spring:

Option #1 Play Dates:  May 10, May 17, May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21
Option #2 Play Dates:  May 17, May 30 (Saturday) May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21
Option #3 Play Dates:  May 30 (Saturday) May 31, June 7, June 13 (Saturday) June 14, June 21

Our goal at SCCSA is to begin our 2020 Spring Recreation Soccer/ Little Dragons Season on the start dates of one of these three plans above.  Again, we want nothing more than to have our practice and game fields filled with our players, coaches, and family members as soon as our local, state, and federal officials share that it is safe to return.

If we cannot start the Season by the last weekend in May, we will be forced to cancel the spring season. If real-time circumstances dictate that we cannot play this spring, all registered players will receive a credit for fees paid for Spring 2020 that can be applied to the Fall 2020 Rec or Little Dragons season or can be used towards the 2020/2021 travel season if you are transition from Rec to Travel.

Another option we hope you would consider if you can, is to donate the spring registration to SCCSA. As I am sure many are aware, SCCSA still incurs various expenses throughout the shutdown period.  While our administration has done everything it can to limit these costs, there still remains a significant amount of financial commitments that must be paid.  Since we charge only what is needed to run our club programs, a donation of your spring registration or any amount, will go a long way to support the club.   SCCSA takes great pride in a robust scholarship program for players who may not otherwise be able to participate in our program.  With your help we can avoid or at least minimize the impact on our club and the scholarship program in the event that we have to cancel the spring season.

SCCSA is a registered 501C non-profit corporation and your donation may be tax deductible but please consult your tax and accountant professionals for correct treatment.

We thank everyone in advance for your consideration and possible support.

If, as we move through May, it becomes apparent that we will sadly not be able to host the 2020 Spring Season, we will send out a link to register for a future credit or make a donation.  More info on the credit process will be shared when a final status for the spring season is determined.

Until that time, we continue to thank you for your understanding and support during this unique time.  We look forward to resuming play as soon as safely possible and miss seeing our SCCSA family on the field.

Our next status update/communication will be sent out on or before May 1, 2020.  Until that communication, all of us at SCCSA wish you and your loved ones good health and safety.

Club update from March 12th

The Southern Chester County Soccer Association (SCCSA) has been in constant contact with state and local officials regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.  Over the past few hours, all of our active leagues and state association competitions have suspended operations for the next two weeks. Tournaments have been canceled as well. With that in mind, and considering how quickly this pandemic is spreading,  the Southern Chester County Soccer Association (SCCSA) will suspend all league activities and events through Friday, March 27, 2020. We will reassess the situation in the days prior to March 27, to determine a course of action on how to move forward. After this first re-assessment, SCCSA will evaluate real-time happenings and conditions on a weekly basis to determine when we can return to play.

At this time, our complete concern is in regards to the safety and welfare of our player, coaches, team officials, referees, and supporters.  We are also concerned about our community as a whole and want to do everything we can to stem the spread of this virus. As many of the canceled tournaments, games, and league events have shared, this is much more than a Soccer Decision.  This is what is in the best interest of our community and public health.

We thank you for your understanding, consideration, and cooperation as we work through this situation. We look forward to returing to play as soon as possible.

The next update will be sent out on or shortly before Friday, March 27, 2020.

Sincerely,

Justin Wyatt

SCCSA President
